Hypocrisy of certain members of Congress concerning gun control

For many members of Congress and mostly conservatives and GOP, any talk of gun control is the same as OMG there gonna take you're guns away from yew!

I have a few issues with that, and with the hypocrisy of conservative members of Congress:
1) Why is it that after nearly a thousand mass shootings since Sandy Hook, we need studies and panels and discussions and talks and research about any sort of gun control or gun restrictions at all, but a couple of heavily edited agenda-laden videos and Congress loses its mind and threatens to shut down the government if we don't defund all of Planned Parenthood immediately?

2) Not to make light of the importance of 9/11, but bear with me: we have ONE terrorist attack (albeit horrific in nature) and for the past 14 years we have had to take off our shoes and belts and scan everything and check baggage and walk through a metal detector and, on occasion, get pulled out of line and more thoroughly searched to get on a plane. On top of that, we can't take bottled water into an airport. Bottle water, totally legal, and we can't take it into an airport because it might be dangerous... BUT some members of Congress want teachers to take GUNS INTO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

3) In addition to the above, any talk of gun control is met with an instant cry of 'Second Amendment!!!!!!!!!" - but why aren't the searches at an airport met with an instant cry of "Fourth Amendment!!!!!!!!"?

4) It's been stated all over the place that gun-free zones make people more unsafe. Again, members of Congress state that if people could carry guns everywhere, everyone would be much safer. Let alone that the statistics do not bear that out... If these members of Congress truly believe this, then why are guns NOT ALLOWED at the U.S. Capitol Building?
