What causes intence cutting pains in my hands when I try to move a relatively light o

I was helping some people to move some wooden benches and while the benches were not heavy my hand felt like they were being cut open by the edges. I was glad when this chore was over and when I inspected my hands they were not even slightly injured. The other people had felt no pain.

What causes this?
