Earth food and ETS

If Extra Terrestrials ever land on earth would they be able to consume food grown here on earth? I always felt H G Welles was right when he described the aliens as nonhuman in appearance but I feel he was wrong to suggest that these aliens could live by ingesting human blood.

I'm of the opinion that if ETS landed in a cornfield they would be unable to eat the corn.
