And on the al Dente Side --

Pastafarians of the World unite. Defend your religious rights!

A Surrey man’s prolonged fight with the Insurance Corp. of B.C. for the right to wear religious headgear in his driver’s license photo has reached a boiling point.

And further:

Quote:

Adam Grossman, a spokesman for ICBC, would not disclose whether the provincial insurer has a list of religions it recognizes, or how it makes decisions as to whether a form of religious headgear will be accepted.

This maybe a gotcha. :(

Grossman noted Canuel is not wearing his headgear in videos posted to his YouTube account.

Friend of Mother Teresa Dies - Ahhhhh!

What a shame! Baby Doc pops his clogs. Will be sorely missed by those willing to suck up to Dicktators for dirty money.

Am sure his family and friends will appreciate your kind words of sympathy.

Dietary salt and our Biomes

Is everybody aware that sauerkraut is made is a heavily salted brine? Seems the acetobactor that turns the sugars in the cabbage into vinegar are fostered by the salty brine. But the salt does prevent some other, more harmful bacteria from multiplying to hazardous quantities.

So, what if the detriment to a high salt diet is that the salt makes changes to our biome? It barely makes a direct difference in hypertension, something in the realm of 3-5 points. Not much help for me, with a high of 250/170. But could the briny gut cause some problerm with by products of the biome?

Though I'm not even sure that a briny gut has any detriment.

Fire at Penn 9/11 Memorial

Quote:

A fire was reported Friday at the Flight 93 National Memorial, the location commemorating the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks in Stonycreek Township, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh station KDKA described the fire as "major" and reported it has burned three administrative buildings. A spokesperson for the National Park Service, the site of the memorial, said no injuries had been reported

I wonder if Alex Jones was seen running away from the scene.... ;)

Information resources for hypothetical start-up business?

I don't know if this is the right place to ask about this, but I figured it was worth a shot. I'm currently taking an online business class. It's condensed and expedited which means it only lasts 6 weeks and covers a great deal of information very quickly. The professor isn't too available for day-to-day questions as she is spread pretty thin.

One of the things we have to complete is a project in which we lay out basic plans for a hypothetical start-up company. I've decided to do an accounting and payroll service for other small businesses. (And I can't change it now, I've already submitted the first couple sections with that as my selection.)

Anyway, this week I have to complete the human resources and management portion of the plan. One of the points we must address is our plan for hiring other staff should things take off quickly (we start with ourselves as the sole employee). It specifically asks what their starting salary and benefit plan (if any) will be. Obviously specifics like that aren't anywhere to be found in the textbook, and googling research so far has only turned up broad averages for entry-level accounting jobs in a very general sense. Does anyone know of any resources for researching specifics in areas like this?

I'm sorry to bog down this board with such a dumb question, but I'm getting very anxious about it and I contacted the professor 2 days ago but still haven't heard back. (As I said, she's spread pretty thin too.)

I DON'T want anyone to do my work for me in the least, just wondered if anyone knew of any pertinent resources I might access. Thanks for reading.

Nun cures boy's eyes with old hair

I never cease to be amazed at how incredibly credulous people can be. In the news today is a story about a nun who cured a young boy of an eye disease. The Church is so convinced that it happened this way that they are elevating Sister Demjanovich's status to "beatified," only one step below "saint."

http://ift.tt/1EdDg3u

Actually, it wasn't the nun who cured him, it was her magic hair, plus an appeal to the supernatural. The reason why the nun couldn't help directly is she had been dead for 34-plus years.

Yet the godlike powers of her hair follicles lived on past her death. Maybe they even got stronger until they burst forth and performed an operation on the pious boy, all without obvious surgery.

Not explained in the article is why it took 50 more years after the "miracle" for it to be recognized by the Church. I guess they were occupied collecting evidence.

I could go on, but it doesn't get any better.

UFOs are baaack!

Expect a renaissance in UFO reports, thanks in part to the ubiquitous drones...

Multiple reports this past week, a bunch near Salt Lake City a couple days ago--and here's the latest:

UFOMania

On the plus side, with all these drones, we should get some clear unequivocal video of alien spacecraft! :jaw-dropp

News from the "Hermit Kingdom"

Over the last week, reports out of N. Korea have indicated that the Dear Leader is "ill", has not been seen in public, may be suffering from gout or perhaps alcoholism, or may have already been deposed.

This morning, there are reports of a surprise visit to the South by two top N.Korean leaders, essentially the # 2 and # 3 men in the regime, talking nicey-nice with the South.

Also news of a new round of negotiations between the two countries.

Interesting. Maybe they're tired of starving... or maybe it's more nice-guy/bad-guy role-playing.

I think I've found the dumbest conspiracy theory EVER

To be honest, one reason I registered was just to post this... I've searched the forum and you've seen Xendrius doing the 9/11 crap... but I stumbled upon him through something different: the "Demon Magicians" series.

I can't post a link because I've just registered, but you already know Xendrius, so you don't really need a link. Your discussions of Xendrius are quite old, though, it seems like "Demon Magicians" happened after, so I don't know, maybe you have already seen it, maybe not...

It's the most hilarious thing I've ever seen. He thinks that the more "unexplainable" tricks done by TV magicians are done with the help of demons. I kid you not. I wish I was, but I am not making this up. Invisible thread levitations are apparently from Satan... :D

The thing that's actually scary is that he isn't alone, there are other people thinking this. It's especially funny to me because I'm a somewhat crappy hobbyist magician, so I *know* how many of these tricks are done, even if I'm nowhere near as good at them... :p

So, what do you think? Is this the dumbest theory ever? Or maybe I'm naive and there's much dumber stuff out there...

(It's sad considering I like the music in his videos (minimalistic dark ambient) and apparently he has composed it himself. It's sad that he's such an idiot at the same time.)

The Godhead of the Lord Jesus

Nowadays more and more in the churches are people who says that Jesus is not God, but the Father alone is God. It is true that the Father is God, but actually the Bible teaches that Jesus is also God. In this writing I bring out that how the Bible tells that the Father is God, and Jesus is God and how this can be true so as there is not any conflict in the Bible. This is a very important subject, because it touches very deeply the foundation of salvation. Test and discern my teaching with Word of God by prayer.

What If All Drugs Were Legalized Tomorrow?

I have always wondered, what if all so-called controlled substances were all-of-a-sudden made legal tomorrow? No legal penalties for personal use. No legal penalties for non-violent selling and what not.

What's the worst that could happen, if we did that? What's the best?

(BTW, I for one not do NOT use recreational drugs and never have. I just don't hang around with that type of crowd. I have been drinking alcohol since childhood. But that is only because my parents have always had it around the house [and needless to say, I am old enough to buy it now :p ]. Please don't share your personal drug stories, esp. if they involve you recently doing something illegal :) .)

Simple gravity experiment that hasn't yet been done?

Hi.

I'm curious about this. I saw this:

http://ift.tt/YYS9G1

where it is mentioned a simple experiment by Galileo, wherein you have a hole going through the entire Earth and a ball is dropped, and one sees how it moves. It should oscillate back and forth through the planet forever.

Now, obviously you can't do this full-scale, but at least in theory, you shouldn't need to. According to physics, the period of oscillation depends only upon the density of the gravitator. For most materials, this oscillation period will be roughly in the area of an hour, which is easily observable. So this prediction should be simple enough to test.

So why not place a mini-model with a solid sphere of whatever metal of your choice and a straight hole through it through which drops a small BB out in space (perhaps the ISS could be leveraged for this), and watch?

Now I don't expect anything surprising would be found, but it is, as said, an area which has not yet been tested by a direct observation and so we don't really know for sure. Just as, for example, the experiments being done with anti-matter -- there are experiments going on to try and test as to which direction antimatter falls (i.e. does it fall down, or does it "fall up")? Most likely it falls down, but it hasn't been tested yet and it's considered interesting enough to test anyways despite the reasonable prediction. Why not this?

Any ideas? Or has this already been done now?

How many people are in space? Well...

...The answer can be found on the site below.

http://ift.tt/mCjOkw

Scrolling down leads to the names of the people in space right now. Clicking each name leads to a short bio. A simple site that won't be of interest to everyone, but I found it rather interesting.

The head of the CDC needs to be the next to resign

The CDC has COMPLETELY failed it's duty to work to prevent viral outbreaks in the US.

Confirmed or suspected cases of Ebola now in FOUR US cities: Dallas (x2 cases), Salt Lake City, somewhere in Hawaii and now Washington DC itself.

And we're STILL allowing infected to return to the US? We STILL aren't doing mandatory quarantine measures to limit exposure? They're only now properly decontaminating the apartment complex where the first Dallas case came from (this from my US House Rep's office).

Utterly incompetent.

Listen to your guardian angel!

So much for the 'sensible' pope.

Minister who ran Canada’s largest Protestant church comes out as atheist

Arturo Garcia

29 Sep 2014

A longtime minister and religious columnist announced this week that he now identified as an atheist, the Friendly Atheist reported.

“This was not an overnight decision,” Rev. Bob Ripley wrote in his latest syndicated column. “I didn’t go to bed one night this week a believer and wake up an unbeliever. I wasn’t blinded on Tuesday by the light of reason that led to a deconversion. I began this journey more than seven years ago. It led initially to me taking early retirement from ministry and has continued over the ensuing five years.”

Joni Ernst Supported Arresting "Obamacare" Workers

http://ift.tt/1mZIcnf

Quote:

State Sen. Joni Ernst, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Iowa, once said she would support legislation that would allow "local law enforcement to arrest federal officials attempting to implement" Obamacare.

Ernst voiced her support for that, as well as supporting legislation that would "nullify" Obamacare in a Iowa State Legislative Candidates survey for Ron Paul's libertarian-aligned Campaign for Liberty in 2012. It can be viewed here.

The question was: "Will you support legislation to nullify ObamaCare and authorize state and local law enforcement to arrest federal officials attempting to implement the unconstitutional health care scheme known as ObamaCare?" Ernst answered that question as "yes."

Last I checked she was leading in Iowa.

Mold, feces and cockroaches: Documents reveal new reasons to distrust Foster Farms

As if the low quality of any factory farmed animal wasn't enough to distrust, here is another reason.

After a 17-month long Salmonella outbreak linked to at least 634 illnesses, Foster Farms officially stopped poisoning people with its chicken this July.
