"Heritage not Hate"

At a local county fair last night, I saw a booth that was selling a confederate flag that had "Heritage not Hate" printed on it.



I am trying to figure out, what, exactly, is the proud heritage of the confederacy that is not predicated on having slaves or defending the right to have slaves?
