HDCP nonsense

This is rant, because it makes me *********** angry. **** HDCP.

Sorry about the language, but I had to vent.

So here's the story:

I have a MacBook. It's old, and it slowly started to decompose, so I finally convinced the rest of my folks it's time to invest into new hardware. Which is a Mac mini. Bought, setup, transferred all over, everything's fine and dandy. Or so it seems. See, I hooked it up to an old monitor with VGA only, which means if I try to watch some of the HD (that is, 720p) TV shows or movies I bought from iTunes over the years, I'm greeted with a "Sorry, cannot play this content on this monitor. Get an HDCP device". (paraphrased)

The kicker: It's the exact same monitor I hooked up to my old MacBook when stationary, and I always could watch the HD content on it all the time.

While getting the mini and figuring out what to get, and deciding that the VGA adapter was all I needed (and no need to pay for a new monitor) I knew that there was something I was missing. I knew all about the included HDCP DRM ******** from way back when, but my wonderful faulty CPU between my ears decided not to remind me until it slapped me on the face.

BTW, there's no need to explain all the background. It simply makes me angry that this **** is rammed down our throat. Because it simply doesn't work. Makes just our life a lot more difficult and expensive, who are actually WILLING to pay for content.
