I recently embraced athiesm. Help with a code.

I am looking for some sort of barometer I can use in developing my own beliefs in what is right and wrong. .. I mean, I have beliefs already, but as someone with young daughters(2 and 7) I am searching for a means by which I can educate them as to what constitutes "good" behavior, and what is bad. I guess...a set of moral principles that are free from religious influence.

a very broad definition for me is "does it hurt anyone" but that seems simplistic.

I was a Southern Baptist(and brief fliration with Mormonism(i am on record at the LDS church still...they will not remove me from the roster without written documentation and certain forms)

but after deployments to iraq and afghanistan, I plunged headlong into fatalism, nihlism, hopelessness....but that has passed. :)

is there something like a "standards of moral , ethical , good behavior" I can use to educate my girls(in a broad sense, i know they will form their own beliefs). I guess im looking for something like the 10 commandments, but without all the magic skyman nonsense.

does something like this exist?
