Is There a Huge Concern About "Anchor Babies"?

I don't mean the term... I know there was some silly "it's just words and words can't hurt ya" debate about whether it's an offensive term. But I mean the persons it describes.

I got this strange email from a friend, formerly a New Yorker but now living in Texas for the past twenty years. I won't repeat it, as I did a google on the words and it's not a circular email making the rounds, so apparently something he decided to send to a dozen or so "friends".

Are there any statistics that show, to name one of his points, "half the violent crime in Texas is committed by the families these Anchor Babies are able to sponsor". I can't find any actual stats, I doubt they're even kept.

Or is this just a buddy who's slipped over the edge? I sent him back an email asking him what it was all about, but got a rather strange reply along the lines of "just bored waiting for the football season to start", but then he reiterated that we have to reform the laws to not allow citizenship to people who are merely born here and can sponsor their entire "tribe" (his word) at INS.
