Racialist Bullies Tearing the Pointing at Things Industry Apart

With all due respect to Abdul Alhazred, I thought I'd point out a somewhat different, but somehow related, item...

You may have heard of this one. So apparently the mayor of Minneapolis spent some time before election day in the US, going around and campaigning. And ran into a few folks from Networks Organizing for Change, including a young man named Navell Gordon. Now, Navell has a checkered past, being convicted for both possessing an illegal firearm, and for having drugs (which shouldn't be a crime in my opinion, but whatever), but he's out knocking on doors, trying to get people to vote, and to turn his life around. Here's the video of them (The relevant part takes place within the first 40 seconds):

Unfortunately, it seems like the city police are angry at the mayor for whatever reason, so They tried to sell this as some sort of disturbing item about the mayor, apparently found a local news program staffed entirely by idiots, and this is the the end result (You also only need to see the first 40 seconds of this video to see the problem - I do recommend watching all of it, though):

When asked about the gang in question, the reporter apparently came up with the name "Stick Up Boys". This whole thing has ended up in #Pointergate, which is currently "trending" on Twitter - meaning, people are mocking it relentlessly. Meanwhile, the news outlet has run two pieces the next day defending their original work, including one where the reporter claims to have investigated the matter for a week.

Now, the use of the "-gate" suffix annoys me as does the transparent bigotry (of particular note - the station, in addition to blurring the black guy's face, also blurred the word "VOTE" from his shirt). But unlike another controversy that uses a '-gate" suffix, this one does actually appear to be about ethics in journalism - granted, only because of the incredible stupidity of a local news channel, and the (so far) relative lack of death and rape threats towards the mayor and activist, and so forth. But isn't this the better way to show contempt for a clear lack of journalistic ethics?
