I was browning some ground beef the other night and as I stirred, some escaped and hit the floor. I threw it out by habit, but started thinking afterward, was that necessary?
Sure, if there were any big dirt particles on it, yeah you'd want to get rid of it, but do you need to worry about things you can't see? Since it's browning, we are talking about searing heat on the exterior, and the interior will get over 160 degrees or so. It's not bacteria or other microbes would be surviving that, should they?
Could I have just as well thrown it back into the pan?
