Well, I voted this morning. As per usual, there were some suboptimal events:
1. While we were waiting in line outside in the dark before 6:00, we witnessed a garbage truck, lights off, barrel down the one-way street going the wrong way. Normally there wouldn't be witnesses around so I can only assume that happens all the time.
2. A woman claiming to be a 'poll volunteer' showed up and couldn't find the door we were lined up at. When we assisted her she went in, then emerged and offered 'sample ballots' to those in line. They weren't sample ballots, they were a list of how one party (Democrats) want us to vote. This sort of thing isn't allowed within fifty feet of the polling place, which she mentioned, but she thought she'd distribute illegally on her way to the legal zone.
3. Being second in line, I was first up at my ward/precinct table. The volunteer manning it was, how do I put this, slow. In the special way. I'm always patient with that but the volunteer next to him wasn't. She yelled at him when he didn't know what to do after scanning my card and verifying my address. So he ran off. Literally.
4. I wasn't given a sticker.
5. The car behind mine was too close so I backed into it. No damage to either but still irritating.
So, anybody else have fun and excitement at the polls today? Democracy can be such an adventure.
