When Screen Size Become " Class " ?

I know it's been around for a while but I've been shopping TV's lately, and the convention of calling the screen size a " class "; 32" class, 65" class, etc. strikes me as odd.

I assume it is some kind of Asian terminology that translates to " class " in English..

Any ideas ?
