Monarchy in the UK - recommendations please

I've recently been watching the re-runs of Simon Schama's "A History of Britain" on the tellybox and it's inspired me to embark upon a little literary project, namely reading historical accounts of all English/British monarchs from Cnut onwards. Ideally I'd like a book-per-monarch approach however this may be difficult until we reach the Angevins due to available material.



If anyone has any recommendations as to authors (or indeed individual books) I'd be most grateful. Content over style, however it would be nice not to have to mainline coffee to get through a chapter.
