This starts out oddly enough, with the Democratic nominee for governor of Ohio caught in a car with an Irish woman at 4:30 AM (about two years ago):
Hey, sounds totally credible to me, but:
Maybe they were looking for the missing friends in the glove compartment, or under the seats? And yes, he is married, with four kids.
But it gets even weirder. What did Fitzgerald have in common with lots of 17-year-olds? No, not rampaging hormones (although he may have those too). Turns out he was driving that night on a learner's permit.
This buffoon was probably not going to win before this news came out (RCP's polling average shows him about 8 points behind incumbent John Kasich), but now he could prove a drag on the rest of Ohio's Democrats.

The Cuyahoga County executive said he and Joanne Grehan, whom he identified as a friend visiting with an Ireland delegation, had not done anything inappropriate when Westlake police confronted them at 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 13, 2012. Officers had responded to a call about a suspicious car at an industrial complex. FitzGerald, who said he and Grehan were trying to locate a half-dozen lost friends, was not charged with a crime. |

FitzGerald, now a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, applied for temporary learner's permits in 2008, 2010 and 2011, according to records obtained from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The one-year, temporary permit allowed FitzGerald to drive legally with a few restrictions. The March 2008 permit application signed by FitzGerald indicated he previously held an operator's license and that his Ohio ID or license expired on his birthday in 2002. During that time, when he would not have been legally allowed to drive, he served as assistant prosecutor, city councilman and mayor of Lakewood. |
