S. E. Hinton under fire for homophobia in 'The Outsiders'

This pair of articles show that the phenomenon covered in the thread I started about the LGBT activists attacking the (LGBT) filmmaker of "Boys Don't Cry" (See bottom of this post.) seems to be a more general thing.

Now I've never actually read 'The Outsiders' (My taste was more oriented towards Kathrine Kerr, C. J. Cherryh, Andre Norton and other sci-fi/fantasy writers.) so I cannot comment on the book.

My interpretation of the phenomenon is that it is an extreme case of 'presentism', the notion that people in the past thought and believed exactly the same things that people in the present do and therefore when people in the past did 'bad things' they must have known better and therefore the only reason they did those things was because they were 'wicked'.

These two articles (Both discussed on Strange Frequencies Radio.) show that the start point seems to have been Hinton stating that contrary to some peoples opinions two of the male characters were not in a homosexual relationship.
