This is the latest form of suppression of freedom of speech from the UK.
Some Nazi-type person sent an anti-semitic tweet to the MP Luciana Berger and now he is going to jail. Yes, he's not simply been blocked from Twitter, or been banned from a chatting forum or even had to pay in a civil suit but been sent to jail.
I wonder if the people happily administering this kind of "justice" are unconcerned about what would happen if they themselves got into trouble for the things they tweeted or posted online.

A man with links to an extremist right-wing group has been jailed for four weeks for sending an anti-Semitic tweet to Liverpool MP Luciana Berger. At Liverpool Magistrates' Court, Garron Helm, 21, admitted sending an offensive, indecent or obscene message. He was ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge to the Labour MP after the judge upgraded the offence to one considered racially motivated. Ms Berger said the sentence "sent out a clear message". The Liverpool Wavertree MP said: "Hate crime is not tolerated in our country. "I hope this case serves as an encouragement to others to report hate crime whenever it rears its ugly head." |
