Death
You are on a stretcher. You are lying on your back and you are being carried by four unknown people. You are being carried through the jungle and as you ride you look up and you see the birds and the monkeys. You smell the plants and the flowers. The day is clear and you can see the sun through the canopy.
You arrive at your destination. The four people lay you down gently, and then they leave you alone. You look out and see what you have come this far to see.
It is a cliff looking over a giant valley far below. For miles you can see the jungle tops below, you can see the birds flying and the steam rising off of the hidden river far below. You see the sun and you feel its heat on your face. You breath in and you feel the air come in and you breath out and you feel the wind leave your lungs.
You are at total peace. You fear absolutely nothing and you understand absolutely everything. It is the greatest feeling you have ever felt.
You see the insects buzzing around you looking for a meal. You do not shoo them away, you let them drink. They land on you and they fly off. They come and they go at will and you are glad to have your brothers company.
You uncover your blanket. And you look down at your stomach. You can easily see the tumor in your abdomen. A curious round part of you about the size of a bowling ball. You laugh and touch it. You massage it and you thank it.
You have almost no strength to walk but you find it . You get up and walk to the edge of the cliff. You stand at full stance and you raise your thin arms.
You walk closer to the edge, but once again you want to see the sun. Of all the sights this ball of hydrogen you have always called the sun is your favorite. You reach out for it and you try and touch it. You marvel at it.
You thank the sun for its light and you thank the universe for this wonderful life you have been blessed with. You are grateful, truly grateful at last.
You finally know the truth and you can feel you know it so profoundly.
You manage every last effort to walk bravely still closer to the edge. You are ready and without any doubt whatsoever you gladly and gratefully walk over the precipice and you feel yourself tumble and you feel yourself fall.
And you know as you fall that the only pain you will feel when you hit the bottom
Is the spank from the doctors gentle hand.
