Texas GOP votes to make homosexual conversion therapy part of their official platform

The Texas GOP has voted to adopt a party platform that includes the following statement:

Quote:

We recognize the legitimacy and efficacy of counseling, which offers reparative therapy and treatment for those patients seeking healing and wholeness from their homosexual lifestyle. No laws or executive orders shall be imposed to limit or restrict access to this type of therapy.

I have to wonder on what basis they are declaring the legitimacy and efficacy? The American Psychological Association has found that it poses critical health risks. So what evidence is the Texas GOP using to ignore that assessment?
