Raise the minimum wage?

I'm sure this has been covered before but I'm hoping to get a recent, fresh take on this. I've also seen mention of the topic in a few other threads.



I don't know which position is the better one, but I lean towards raising the minimum wage to help the poor live better lives. Problems with this idea? Advantages and disadvantages?



I've only really been following news/politics for about a year (and even then, pretty lazily) so I don't know much as a whole but maybe that's advantageous because I could be less subject to confirmation bias. Or maybe I think too highly of myself ;)
