I'm a bit of a collector of odd historical events, those things that'd be laughed at if they appeared in a work of fiction, but are completely real.
For example the Palace of Westminster in London being burned down because a couple of workmen were careless in disposing of tally sticks (16OCT1834), or American and Wermacht troops fight side-by-side during WW2 (Castle Itter), or Archduke Franz-Ferdinand's near miss shooting accident at Welbeck in 1913, or Hitler, Trotsky, Tito, Freud, Franz-Ferdinand and Stalin all living within a few kilometres of each other (Vienna 1913) or the Brooks-Baxter war in Arkansa in 1872, or, well there are many more.
Does anyone have any to add?
