Russia's aggressive attacks on non ISIL sites in the north west of Iraq, and intervention into Turkish airspace, where Turkey could not defend it's own airspace might force NATO units to respond to these incursions.
Russia would never make these incursions unless they where sure there would be no response, albeit, a weak reply from the Turkish government.
The toothless Turks have demonstrated they have no effective air defence, or resolve against the latest versions of the Sukhoi PAK FA-50, or the Sukhoi Su-35.
Will NATO have to take over the air defence of Turkey?

These are older F16's which have been upgraded but do not have the long range radar
of the latest russian Sukhoi types.
