Could someone confirm if this is a fossil of some sort?

My nephew found this rock on the shore of Georgian Bay this week. It looks like it could possibly be a fossilized coral perhaps? I don't know, but thought I would see if anyone here could shed some light. If it is a fossil of some sort, I think he would be pretty excited. He is 9 and really enjoys that kind of thing.
