Anyone who isn't pro mandatory driverless cars ASAP doesn't realize how dumb that is.

If you're in the United States, there is a 1 in 10000 chance that you will die this year in a car accident. If you know 1000 people, there is a 1 in 10 chance that one of them will die in one. One in 147 people will be injured in a car this year. Just divide the numbers of accidents and injuries by population.

It's an objective fact that we will have driverless car technology that can erase virtually all accidents, most of any kind of pedestrians or dogs, maybe even squirrels being hit. That's a lot of deaths and injuries a year, 32,999 and 2,239,000.

Meanwhile "11,208 deaths by homicide (3.5 per 100,000),[3] 21,175 by suicide with a firearm,[4] 505 deaths due to accidental discharge of a firearm,[4] and 281 deaths due to firearms-use with "undetermined intent"[5] for a total of 33,169 deaths"

Very few of the car deaths are caused intentionally, while a vast majority of gun deaths are. And the majority of it is self-inflicted. Now, you have to ask yourself well, if there is one thing that technology and political will can do to save lives in America, what would it be? To save the most innocent lives. Where we can save 10s of thousands of lives and prevent millions of injuries a year... what can we shame people into doing something about in a simple way?

The technology, the security, the privacy, it can be worked out, to a level that more than justifies saving all of these lives and broken families and lifelong injuries. Every single person in the world should be pushing for this, and screaming at what is holding up this inevitable progress. We should be drawing up laws and having the debates now, before the technology is here because anyone can see it's coming. Elon Musk says it's gonna happen like that, outlaw driving on public roads, save countless lives, and you get to get drunk in your car and wake up in California. Come on.

The faster we try and make this happen, the more lives we save! 91 people a day. Just in the US imagine the whole planet. Money and legal progress must be invested in now.
