Arkansas judge resigns over thirty years of sexual misconduct with defendants

Facing a misconduct investigation over numerous accusations that he traded lighter sentences for sexual favours Judge Joseph Boeckmann has resigned. An investigating commission has found more than 4,500 photographs taken of young male defendants and investigated claims that he had sexual relationships (which included corporal punishment) with male defendants, possessed child pornography [at least one victim was a minor], offered some defendants reduced sentences in exchange for sexual favours and/or photographs.

In a letter to the Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission Boeckmann said that his resignation was effective immediately and that he would never again seek employment as a local, county or state employee. Prosecutors have not yet filed criminal charges but the case remains "open". More than one hundred men are believed to have been victimised by Boeckmann dating back to his time as a prosecutor.
