Court of law should only allow science for medical decision

http://ift.tt/1X3mEoT

It is a child which was unfortunately declared brain dead at two different hospital.
Basically now they want to free the equipment, and let the rest of the corpse die.

But what attracted my attention is this :

"On Wednesday, Israel's parents pushed their challenge to the constitutionality of state law. Federal law, they argued, provides an exception for the religious belief that brain death does not exist. "

I hold this is the most stupid things ever, and court while not trampling on the religion of others, should not allows expansive equipment and expansive care for a corpse. At some point rationality and science should win, and I think this is beyond that point.

What's your opinion ? Am i going too far ?

ETA:
Also "Dr. Paul Byrne, a pediatrician who examined the boy's medical records on behalf of his parents, said in court documents that Israel is "likely to continue to live" with proper treatment and "may find limited to full recovery of brain function, and may possibly regain consciousness." I would like to see that scientifically funded by that guy. PVS may recover there are some cases, but brain death properly confirmed there are no case whatsoever of recovery to my knowledge.
