Should cursive writing still be taught in schools?

I've been seeing a lot of people on social media lately lamenting the fact that schools just aren't teaching students cursive writing any more. They seem to believe that cursive writing is still an important skill. The inability to sign documents and the inability to read historical documents are the 2 main arguments that I've seen.

Since I'm in my mid 50's of course I learned cursive just like everybody else, but I'm not sold on cursive being an important skill for modern children to learn.

There is no legal requirement for signatures to be in cursive. Mine is just a scribble, but I write it almost exactly the same every time, so I have assumed mortgages and made other major purchases with it. Besides, biometrics is the way to securely sign things anyway. Signatures are a silly way to validate somebody nowadays. Sign your next credit card receipt "Mickey Mouse" and see what the cashier does.

As far as historical documents go, most really important relatively modern ones are rendered digitally for everybody to access, and the older ones need to be read by an expert no matter what ones cursive writing skills are. I can make out very little to nothing of the Magna Carta, for example. Language and cursive styles change over time.

I was wondering what opinions others had.
