Reported this morning in my Google News feed....
Big controversy brewing over Playmobil's "Pirate Ship" toy set which includes a dark-skinned figurine wearing a slave collar.
Junior actually has to put the collar on....And it's pretty obviously a collar, not a necklace.
News reports show an African-American woman who bought the set for her kid.... Rather uncomfortable, I imagine:http://ift.tt/1VIUY4X
Playmobil, for their part, has said that the character is supposed to be an escaped slave who joined the pirate crew.
One is tempted to be snarky... "Slave Leia" is still beloved by many geeks (myself included...I have a figurine. With collar....) But I can see why explaining this to a little African American kid might be problematic.
